The 24-Carrot Manager

Just finish this book, a nice quick read

What I found useful is:
  • Get out of your office regularly, spend some time to walk around, talk to your people, ask them what they are working on and what rewards they value.

  • Take note of potential recognition stories and be specific. If you notice something great, say so immediately and make them feel appreciated. Don't wait until you can offer an employee a raise or promotion

  • Employees attach more value to a reward they find personally meaningful than to a generic gift. Learn about his/her interest, remember birthday & work anniversary and tie recognition to company's goals and values
